School Pride Scholarship

I picked my school, Western Washington University, because of the unique opportunities it offers. I feel free to explore intellectually before declaring a major, and I can design my own major or pick from their great assortment of study options. They have a diverse selection of classes, and the students who attend come from many different backgrounds and represent many, diverse perspectives. Western also offers international experiences such as studying abroad, student learning, and volunteer work. I can travel just about anywhere in the world through their programs. They have an honors program that provides the opportunity for students to take harder, smaller classes which could help me get to know other students with similar academic goals. To top it off, they are aware of the environment and try to be as green as possible. Western is ranked 14th on Sierra Club's Annual List of “Coolest Schools.” Their goal is to reduce their utilities costs and consumption by 10% by 2012. Of all the schools I looked at and applied to, I chose Western, because I feel a strong connection with their values, standards, and passions. It’s the place for me to launch my life and learning. I am fully expecting them to give me a wonderful education, international opportunities, a challenging honors program, an environmentally responsible environment, and an accepting community to help me grow.
